　　7月20日晚上，我刚洗过澡，正坐沙发上看书，爸爸则在看电视。突然我感觉发有点在晃动。

　　On the evening of July 20, I just took a bath and was reading on the sofa, while my father was watching TV. All of a sudden I felt my hair shaking.

　　我正准备抬头问爸爸时，爸爸却问我：“地震了？”这下我可慌了，赶忙跑到房间里，把正坐在电脑前的妈妈拉了出来。一家人把所有的灯都关掉了，锁了门。快速下了楼梯，直奔草坪。我们下来时，也有些邻居从楼上下来，也同样感觉到了地震。到了草坪上以后，才发现，并没有多少人。我询问了楼下那些正在打牌的阿姨们，而他们的回答却让我让我大吃一惊，她们说：“什么感觉也没有啊！”正在这时，爷爷才散步回来，我们问他，爷爷的回答也跟那些阿姨们一样，有着同样的表态，虽然如此，但我们还是不敢上楼，大约半个小时后，见没有什么反常的情况，才回了家。

　　When I was about to raise my head to ask my father, he asked me, "earthquake?" Now I'm in a panic. I ran to the room and pulled out my mother who was sitting in front of the computer. The family turned off all the lights and locked the door. Quickly down the stairs, straight to the lawn. When we came down, some of our neighbors came down from upstairs, and felt the earthquake as well. When I got to the lawn, I found that there were not many people. I asked the aunts who were playing cards downstairs, and their answers surprised me. They said, "I don't feel anything!" Just then, grandpa came back for a walk. We asked him, and grandpa's answer was the same as those aunts, with the same expression. However, we still dare not go upstairs. After about half an hour, we saw that there was no abnormal situation, and then we went back home.

　　第二天看报纸时，我才知道7月20日20时11分，在江苏扬州高邮市定应县交界处，发生了4.9级地震，但未有人员伤亡以及造成财物损失。

　　When I read the newspaper the next day, I learned that at 20:11 on July 20, at the junction of Dingying County, Gaoyou City, Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9, but no casualties or property losses were caused.

　　虽然地震十分可怕，但在发生时进行适当的处理，就可以免于伤害：

　　Although the earthquake is very terrible, it can be avoided by proper treatment when it occurs:

　　1.地震时要往空旷安全的地方躲避。

　　1. In case of an earthquake, avoid in an open and safe place.

　　2.来不及转移时，要平趴在坚固的家俱旁、躲进卫生间内。

　　2. When it's too late to transfer, lie flat beside the solid furniture and hide in the bathroom.

　　如果地震时，没有冷静地采取有效措施，情况将会更糟。

　　If effective measures are not taken calmly during the earthquake, the situation will be worse.
